What we do:
The BC Producers’ Branch of the CMPA is a non-profit trade organization that works on behalf of over 75 British Columbia companies engaged in the production and distribution of television, feature film, and digital media content. More specifically, it promotes the general interests of its members municipally, provincially, federally, and internationally; negotiates and manages labour agreements with guilds and unions; and undertakes a variety of industry development initiatives to build the capacity of BC based companies.

Liz Shorten
Managing Vice-President, Operations and Member Services,
Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA-BC)
Liz Shorten recently joined the CMPA- BC after two years as President of Media Skillset Consulting where she designed and delivered strategic initiatives to address gaps, challenges, and opportunities in the film, television and digital media sectors. An accomplished decision-maker with a strong record of performing in diverse program and policy environments, Liz has contributed at a senior management level as Partnerships Executive at CBC British Columbia, Manager, Marketing and Communications at British Columbia Film and Manager, Corporate Development at the Ontario Film Development Corporation. In 2006, Liz was recipient of the Women in Film Wayne Black Service Award in honour of her “behind-the scenes” work in support of the film and television industry in BC. Liz currently sits on a number of film program advisory committees and is an active member of the Crazy8s Film Society Board of Directors.
Gigi Boyd
Vice-President, Industrial Relations
Gigi Boyd is the most recent addition to the CMPA-BC team. A Gemini and Leo award winning Producer (“Elijah”), Gigi comes to the CMPA with more than 20 years of experience working in the Canadian film and television industry. Gigi started her film career in the accounting department of Cannell Films on the series “Stingray” and went on to become the Budget Estimator on “Wiseguy” and the Paramount series “MacGyver”. Hired by the Western office of Telefilm Canada as a Business Analyst in 1989, Gigi was subsequently made Manager of Business Affairs and then Director of the Television Unit between 1990-1996. Rejoining the private sector as a Production Accountant on the series “Madison”, Gigi went on to become a member of the DGC and continued her work in television as a Production Manager and Producer. Her credits include the series “Cold Squad” Seasons I-VII, “Godiva’s” Seasons I-II, “The Guard”, Exes & Ohs” Seasons I-II and the MOW “The Stranger Beside Me”.
Gigi is a graduate of the Canadian Film Centre Producer Program, an inaugural winner of the Banff Next Media TV 360 Team Award, and was one of twenty people chosen nationally to participate in the NSI Global Marketing Program in 2000. She served on the DGC-BC board as Secretary-Treasurer between 2007-2010 and has been the Vice-Chair of the Shaw Rocket Fund for the past ten years.
Mélanie Lê Phan
Administrative Assistant
Mélanie Lê Phan joined the Vancouver office to provide administrative support in October of 2011, and she will be working on a part-time basis. Mélanie is originally from Ottawa where she completed her BA in Communications from the University of Ottawa. She is now venturing into her second year in the University of British Columbia (UBC) Film Production Program. Mélanie also participated in the Crazy8s 2011 event as co-producer of the short film Run Dry. This year, she is producing two UBC short films to be premiered at the Persistence of Vision (POV) Film Festival in April 2012.
